Kama Sutra Coin TailsKama Sutra Coin HeadsYesterday I received in the mail a gift from a friend in Berkeley California of what looks like a Chinese Kama Sutra coin. He originally had three coins and recently found two, sending me one. He calls it the sex I Ching coin. My friend got these coins from his wife who bought them years ago and has no knowledge of the coin or where it came from.

I scanned some images of this Chinese Kama Sutra coin – one in the condition I received it, heads and tails, and the other after I cleaned it up with some vinegar and salt.

Does any one have any knowledge about this coin? I would love to know. It would also be nice to have three of them.

The images here are the actual size of the coin, about an inch an a half in diameter.

I do not know of the truth to this. But my grandfather has the exact same coin. when I asked him about it, in his words, “it’s a f*ck token.” He claims during the war he was given them and people would use them by pointing to what they wanted. He drilled a hole in the one I have and wore it as a chain. I also could not find any information as to the value or purpose of these.

I purchased two of these coins in a Korean antique store in in Seoul in 1969. I forgot I had them until recently. I remember being told they were indeed given to brides and grooms as wedding gifts for good luck and instruction. Really don’t know age or worth but they seem to be very unique. Someone let me know if anyone uncovers anymore info. Thanks!…Craig

      Hi Scott,

Thanks for posting. I have no idea of the value of the coin or any knowledge other than what you see posted on this link about the coins. From what Louis said it is a pre-wedding coin of some kind. I am going to forward your letter to the person who gave me this coin and we’ll see what he says.

    Luis A. and Adele,
Thanks much for sending me to the web site that explains the coins. Who would have guessed, but then the coins have illustrated their points quite well.

      Hi Luis,

Thanks for that link – wonderful, helpful, interesting.
I”m going to post a short quote from the site you gave us about the coins.

“The Chinese usually refer to these coins as mixiqian (秘戏钱) which means “secret play” or “secret fun” coins. In English, they are variously referred to as Chinese marriage coins, Chinese love coins, Chinese spring money, Chinese erotic coins, Chinese wedding coins, etc.
