Illustration for Trigram Fire, Middle daughter

The middle daughter in the I Ching trigram family is the symbol of The Clinging Fire. The Clinging means dependence. The Clinging acts in the pheasant-like firebird. The Clinging is the brightness in which all creatures perceive one another.

Hey Adele, this is the first post where the comment box appears. I don’t know what that means since I don’t use this format, but figured I should let you know!

The problem with the comments: under the top posts, there’s just no spot for comments!

    Hello, Adele,
You are great – as always!
Just a question – why does Fire have Afro-American features?

    • Thanks Ogi,
I have been creating images and interpretations for the I Ching for eons now. Over the years my medium and technique has changed as the times have changed. I’ve created a variety of graphics but my most personal interpretation are those I post for I Ching Meditations, doing a text and image for each line. I am presently working on Hexagram 18, Work on What has Been Spoiled. In this hexagram the lines are about what the mother and the father have done in the past that effects the next generations. It’s like ancient Chinese therapy. This process has caused me to think about the family as it is referred to in the I Ching. Previously to this I was thinking of my interpretations personally – what it meant for just me as a woman. So I decided to create a human figure for each trigram family member. It occurred to me that the I Ching goes back before the Western bible with stories about Adam and Eve – Eve being the original woman. And science tells us that humankind dates back to a woman in Africa. So the original human was black. In the I Ching the feminine is always referred to as “the dark.” So I thought why not make the feminine dark? I am creating the 3 I Ching daughters, Wind&Wood, Fire and Lake also dark and the 3 sons and father, Chinese light.

    • Thanks Trish. I don’t know what’s happening with my blog because I’m not receiving messages when someone comments. And other mysterious tech issues.
