Image, I Ching Hexagram 42, line 2

Six in the second place

When you have created a bountiful situation
good fortune is yours without fail.
Being in tune with what is right helps the world beyond yourself.

Six in the second place changes to hexagram 61

Paintings and Prescriptions hexagram 61

Notes on this line:
The inverse of hexagram #41, Decrease, is #42, Increase.Lines for hexagram 41 and 42

changing lines, hexagram 41 and 42In hexagram 41 the fifth line — 10 pairs of tortoises — is the augury for good fortune without fail. The Chinese text also refers to 10 pairs of tortoises in the second line of hexagram 42.

lines hexagram 23 and 24

Another thing I find interesting is that the mutual hexagram created by the middle lines for #42, is Hexagram 23, Splitting apart. The mutual hexagram for #41, is hexagram 24, Return.

In hexagram 41, the trigrams Mountain over Lake are defined by their human symbols. Lake is called the youngest daughter, and Mountain the youngest son.
In hexagram 42, the trigram human symbols are Wind and Wood, the oldest daughter, Thunder the oldest son.

I would be interest to know if anyone has any thoughts about this.

You don’t superimpose in the I Ching, Ian. Lines change to other lines as established by an ancient tradition. It’s not a divination system where you draw another card because you don’t like the first card you drew.Love this illustration, Adele.

    • Thanks for your comment and clarification Trish. I didn’t understand what Ian didn’t understand. I thought I was adding some clarification to these two hexagrams. Perhaps it is better not to try. We all see our own I Ching anyway. This is my attempt. I do enjoy doing it.

I cant pretend to realy understand these lines – always good to get though – Superimpose #23 and #24 with the same moving lines and you get #61 Chung Fu – I and Sun with these lines also change to #61 – Wind – gentleness above – also wood – The image of a roof – over a hearth – #37 Family – The Tortoise carries his roof on his back – his shell – So always home ! – one I Ching I have come across puts a Dolphin in place of the pigs and fishes of #61 – Pig-fishes – Maybe a Tortoise – Land pig – Turtle – Sea pig – Land pig under a shell roof – Long living – wise and warm – slow changing – like continental drift – our Blue Planets – Carapace
